SALUNGA, Pa. – Eastern Mennonite Missions (EMM) has released an initial $15,000 to aid relief efforts in Haiti. “EMM has not had workers in Haiti since 1991, but with the incredible needs as a result of the recent earthquake, EMM is committed to getting involved,” said Richard Showalter, president of EMM. In partnership with Lancaster General Hospital, YWAM, and other donors, EMM is helping to sponsor a team of 18 local medical personnel going to Haiti from January 26 to 30.
Eastern Mennonite Missions is also investigating additional ways to partner with local and international groups to help bring relief to Haiti. “Some of our international partners in Europe and Asia are already expressing interest in work teams or are collecting money to send for relief efforts,” said Steve Shank, EMM representative to Latin America. “We are committed to getting involved in Haiti, but right now the situation is chaotic and communication is difficult. We are in contact with Mennonite Central Committee and will continue to partner with them in any way we can.”
To assist with EMM’s efforts in Haiti, please send funds designated “Haiti Relief” to Eastern Mennonite Missions. Contribute online at www.emm.org/donate or by mailing checks to EMM at P.O. Box 458, Salunga, PA 17538.
EMM is collaborating with Mennonite Central Committee and other Anabaptist agencies in a larger response. For more information about EMM’s effort in Haiti relief, contact Steve Shank at 717 898-2251. Thank you for your support and prayer.
