Europeans are ethnically diverse and have a rich spiritual and cultural heritage. However, the majority has abandoned that heritage and has become both post-modern and post-Christian. As a result barely two percent of Europeans are evangelical Christians. Europeans pride themselves on their tolerance to different ways of thinking and various lifestyle choices.
Eastern Europeans especially face many challenges as they emerge from the bondage of communism. Financial difficulties, human secularism, emigration, the onslaught of cultic religions, and the lure of western materialism have all had an impact on Eastern Europe. These shifting cultural dynamics provide many exciting and challenging opportunities for the evangelical church. There are numerous opportunities for mission witness where the church is weak or non-existent and God continues to open doors for a new evangelical and holistic witness among the Europeans.
