MKCDEBRA ZEIT, Ethiopia – “I believe that because of the years we spent ‘underground’  in a powerful movement to Jesus during the Marxist Derg government (1981-91), God is trusting us to help empower similar movements in both the Coptic Orthodox and Muslim communities,” said Yemiru Tilahun, director of the evangelism and missions department of the Meserete Kristos Church (MKC) of Ethiopia.

A life-changing meeting in Singapore

SINGAPORE – Five and a half years ago an EMM worker family in Asia attended a month-long training in Singapore. Because lodging was not cheap in the pristine city state, the family found their way to an inexpensive hostel for the last ten days of their stay.

Not long after settling in, EMM workers Paul* and Martha* noticed a distraught young Chinese man named Fan* with whom they shared a bathroom. As Paul reached out to Fan, in broken English his traumatic story came tumbling out.

Breaking alabaster in 2012

SALUNGA, Pa. – Recently I talked to a young woman who has felt a deep sense of call to work among Muslims. She had sensed God stirring her spirit while serving in EMM’s YES program back in the early 1990s. During a season of prayer and fasting God spoke to her heart very specifically.

I was amazed as I listened to EMM Discipleship Coach Ryan Showalter explain this new model for the YES program: training on location; short, focused training blocks interspersed with outreach; constant mentoring; and increased opportunities for non-North Americans to participate.
