Doreen Bishop - Prayer Mobilizer
Doreen BishopDoreen Bishop started her role as Prayer Mobilizer in August. This new role is subtly different than the previous position of Prayer Coordinator.

“The change is subtle,” Doreen said. “The slight change comes into play with a stronger focus on gathering a network of intercessors on behalf of Discipleship Ministries. It’s extending beyond ourselves to mobilize prayer in our broader partnerships.”

Doreen likes that her role is part administrative and part ministry. “I thrive when I have variety, and opportunities to meet and get to know people. Honestly, I love what EMM is about and I’m thrilled to be back serving the department that I’ve spent most of my young adulthood working for.”

As the former Training Director at HDC, Doreen has also served in various capacities at EMM for 8 years. She served on two YES teams; as a new high school graduate on the Sweden ‘96 team and then led a team back to Sweden in 1998. In between she co-led a STAT team to Germany and afterward served as the Assistant Director of the Baltimore Discipleship Center in 2000.

“I’ve been around for a while,” Doreen laughed. “It was hard to let go of my role as the Training Director at HDC two years ago. But I knew God was calling me to complete my graduate studies which took place in June of this year.”

Two and a half years ago, Doreen married Loren Bishop who also has a wealth of EMM experience. Loren served on a YES team to Germany, co-led a STAT team to Germany, and served on two GO! assignments, one to North Africa and one to the Philippines. Loren and Doreen didn’t meet until he was training to serve on the GO! assignment to North Africa. “It wasn’t until after he returned and was interested in leading YES teams on backpacking adventures at HDC that we really began to know each other.” They got married February 16, 2008.

The role of Prayer Mobilizer will continue through December 2010 which is perfect for Doreen who is expecting the couple’s first child. The future of the position will depend on budgeting concerns and allotments; it will be reevaluated in 2011.

Book currently reading
: Servant on the Edge of History, written by former missionary to Vietnam, Sam James. And I highly recommend it!

Favorite restaurant: It’s a toss up between Passage to India in Harrisburg and TJ Rockwell’s in Lancaster.

Last movie seen: Indiana Jones, Raiders of the Lost Ark. I’ve never seen the series and someone recently loaned this to me to “catch up.”

Place I would most like to go on vacation: Vacation? Being that we live in the heart of the city, I’m pleased just to get into the country now and then!! I’m a country girl at heart!

Favorite TV show: Any shows that involve healthy life transformation- Biggest Loser, Extreme Home Makeover, etc.

Pet peeve: Recently it’s simply been heavy traffic.

Something people may not know about me: A foreign exchange student from Korea  joined us August 30 and will be spending the next year with us.
