Greta Knepper, prayer ministries coordinator |
As the Prayer Ministries Coordinator, Greta Knepper stays in close touch with workers on the field. She not only prays for the individuals and teams serving, but also shares their newsletters and prayer concerns with the staff in EMM's central offices. “I love to pray,” Greta says when asked what she likes best about her position. “And so I really enjoy times of ministry and prayer for those out in the field and those preparing to go, and of course I love working with my Discipleship Ministries (DM) team!” Greta grew up in Williamsport, Maryland, and graduated from Eastern Mennonite University. Missions has been a big part of her life. Greta served on a YES team to Wales from ‘98-99; was a Missions Intern in Wales from’01-04; served as a hostess at the Millersville International House from ‘99-00; filled the role of Training Assistant at HDC from ‘04-05, and was as a member of the Morocco GO! team in ‘05. In fact Greta was preparing to go to India as a long-term missions worker this fall before God intervened and changed her plans. “I had been praying that if it wasn’t right for me to go that God would stop me somehow,” Greta explained. “Mary Jane Pena, a former EMM worker, set up a blind date for me. I didn’t really want to go on a blind date and didn’t think anything would come of it. But as I got to know Chad Short after a few dates, I came to believe that God brought him to me in his timing. I felt a peace about putting India on hold to pursue the relationship.” In fact, Greta is now engaged to Chad David Short, a wedding and events videographer, and will be marrying him on July 26. The wedding at the Farm and Home Center will include a “potluck meal, lots of friends singing, dinner theater style seating, and videos!” “Chad has gone on numerous short-term missions trips himself,” Greta said. “He is open to living overseas and we’ve talked about this a lot. I still have a few questions about the time I spent planning for India but I have seen from fruit from it. I am excited about where God will lead us in the future. ” Book currently reading: The Bible, it’s all I have time for right now! Hobbies: Traveling, reading, listening to music, running, watching movies, and being with friends. Favorite restaurant: Texas Road House if I feel like steak; otherwise I enjoy eating Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, and Ethiopian food. Place I would most like to go on vacation: Either Greece again or back to Wales to visit friends. Favorite TV show: Older shows like Charlie’s Angels, I Love Lucy, Dukes of Hazard, etc. What people may not know about me: “I once made a youth group in Wales compete by eating whole bananas will pantyhose on their heads. Wish I had gotten a picture of that!”
