God at work
HDCHarrisburg Discipleship Center (HDC) is a hub of activity these days, as thirty-eight new participants have begun discipleship training to prepare to enter seven different countries.

Training director Doreen Ebersole sees how the power of the training is affecting them already. At first, some stated that they wished they could just start their outreach, but now they realize how valuable their HDC training is. She’s also heard that for some it feels like HDC already feels like family – that they’ve never been in an environment like this that doesn’t develop into cliques.

Another expressed that he used to “fill his life with busyness,” but now he is learning to slow down and find time to actually experience God’s presence. One said that the training on recognizing the value of different “spiritual streams” opened his eyes to how important the contemplative approach to spirituality fits hits personality, and that he is experiencing God’s presence in a powerful way. Doreen says, “We want the Body of Christ to be able to embrace the diversity of the different spiritual streams instead of seeing it as a threat.”

Another expressed to Doreen that he is more of a concrete thinker, so his prayers tend to be an agenda of a list of needs, but he is learning that “prayer also involves listening to God to receive a word, or a picture” that helps give specific guidance.
